Dark Side of the Spoon

Gourmet dorm room cuisine.

my new favorite food truck

A few months ago, I made the street cart chicken recipe posted on Serious Eats. I had never tried street cart chicken before, but I loved the dish when I made it—in fact, I had been dreaming about it ever since. On Thursday, I got to try street cart chicken from an actual street cart (DC Kabob & Grill).

I got the chicken on rice, which is a fairly decent deal for $8.

The chicken was fragrant and well-spiced. Similarly, the chickpeas served alongside were tender, filling, and gently flavored with Middle Eastern spices. I asked for a little hot sauce on the chicken, and it was certainly spicy, but the creamy yogurt sauce that topped the chicken helped to cool off the dish. The rice was incredible, too—mildly seasoned and great stirred into the chickpeas. The side salad was mediocre, as expected.

Here’s a close-up of the chicken. Are you drooling yet?
